good things come to those who shop…

Posted in family, love, shopping with tags , , , , , , , on April 22, 2010 by jentonelli

Hi beauties—

My mom emailed me this morning and asked if there was anything specific I wanted for a graduation gift. In high school I asked for a really nice cannon rebel XT camera for graduation. This year, fortunately, I really cannot think of anything that I absolutely need—except for a job and a place to live! But other than that, I really have everything I need and that is a good feeling. I cannot explain how appreciative I am toward my mother. She is one of the most generous women I know! She loves her kids so so much and we love her right back….

Given that there is nothing I need, I decided to think of something I want. Something pretty and special that I wouldn’t normally ask for….

As much as I love love love to shop, I usually only go for clothing and shoes. I am not into designer bags and have never asked for one. I have received some awesome purses for holidays but usually things that others picked out for me and I ended up loving….. again, I am so grateful to be so fortunate.

So I decided to browse around for personalized bags. Something that wasn’t just pretty or designer but had a little intimacy so that I felt that I chose it and my mother felt that I was the only person who had something like this.

I know that Long Champ has an entire website devoted to personalizing their Le Pliage canvas tote bags…. very bright colors and practical for carrying around a lot of things. Tons of girls at my school have them.

*Le Pliage Canvas Totes…..

But I was looking for something a little more authentic and a little more grown up. Something I could carry to work. Something leather and bold, but would still have a personal and fun feeling that was a little more discreet.

Their new line of Le Cabas Leather totes are awesome. Pricy, but awesome. You can choose from an array of colors, Black, Brown, White, Tan, Blue, Clay, Red etc. Then within the bag you can choose a bright color: pink, orange, green butterfly, coral etc. You have four options in the bag size, two options in handle length and then for 10 more bucks you can have your initials on the leather……

*The customizing process….

I fell inlove with this bag immediately. We shall see in about a month if my mother felt the same… either way I thought I would share that great new bag with you!!

*Finished product……

Have a wonderful day!

P.S.— BIG Shoutout to my ENGLISH COMM family!!! Goodluck this weekend! I love you all and will miss you more than you know!!! XOXOX

Ok so here it is…

I have been doing relatively well on keeping my diet clean of crap. Yesterday, I had a huge and delicious sandwich with bread and cheese and let me tell you, those two wonderful items ruin my life. Every time I eat something like that, I legit fall asleep afterwards and then feel tired, cranky and terrible. Basically, the food hangover I mentioned after my binge of cape cod chips and heluva good dip. Let me first tell you that, I did know going into the sandwich that I would enter a food coma after, but sometimes, it is worth it to give into your cravings.

But back to my clean diet discussion. For the past few weeks I have been making smoothies for breakfast every day. They are perfect for me because:

1. I can buy all the ingredients in one shopping trip and they last me all week.

2. I don’t need to cook.

3. I get a nutritious filling breakfast, and breakfast is supposed to be the most important part of the day.

4. It takes under 5 minutes to prep, cook and drink! Perfect for someone who likes to wake up and GO.

This awesome juice that you can find at the grocery store is already thick and and packed with fruits and vegetables, making it even easier:

Bolthouse Farms Fruit Smoothies! I love them.
Each is a different combination of fruits and veggies to support a healthy immune system. Each large container includes 8 1/2 servings!

The Fruit Smoothies come in the following flavors:

Strawberry Banana
Contains strawberry and banana pieces. 100% natural.

Contains camu camu and acerola cherries for high doses of Vitamin C.

Berry Boost
Contains 5 types of hand-picked berries, plus apple juice and banana puree. 5 essential vitamins!

Blue Goodness
Contains blueberries, blackberries and elderberries. High in antioxidants!

Green Goodness
Includes 8 delicious juices/purees and packed with 14 powerful nutrients!

The Simple Smoothie:

1 banana

3 large strawberries

1 tsp. of organic wildflower honey

3 ice cubes

1/4 cup of any Bolthouse Farm Fruit Smoothie you desire!

–Place all ingredients (minus the honey) in blender. Blend on high for a minute. While blending, open the small opening for adding ingredients (if your blender comes with this) and squirt the honey in so it gets completely mixed around–

Pour. Sip. Enjoy.

Seriously, I never thought I would go to school in Rhode Island, nevermind actually think of missing it now that these four years are coming to an end! To tell you the truth, I almost transferred about three separate times when I was a freshmen and sophomore! Can you believe that? Now I barely go home. I have a life here now; I have a whole new group of friends, a boyfriend, a home (rental, but I love it so much), plus I am in Newport, Providence, Cranston and Jamestown at least once a week. I’m like a little RI Native these days. But long before I settled in the ocean state… I was just a good old Boston girl….

Boston Skyline at Night

But as the baseball season starts up I have to admit, my love for Boston still outweighs this tiny little state. The Redsox, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market etc. I love the feel of the city. It is not so big like NYC that you feel overwhelmed, but not anywhere near as small as Providence. I like the people, the streets, the SHOPPING and the architecture. I love Boston accents!! I love the view of the skyline at night and seeing people walking, running or biking along the Charles River during the day. I love seeing laser shows at the Museum of Science, visiting the Aquarium and the MFA and going to the Charles Play House Theatre to see Blue Man Group! My two all-time favorite things to do are walk Newbury Street with my family and hit the shops then stop at Charley‘s for lunch or go to the Red Sox game with friends or family and get dinner after or go out for drinks! There is just so much to do in Boston and it is 20 minutes from my hometown! Click some of the links provided to check out some of my favorite places (And for the sake of my English 452 Class… I am receiving no compensation for linking these places ;))

Fenway Park (Fenway Pahk* if you’re from here)

The Charles River (You would also drop the ‘r’ in Charles…)

Faneuil Hall at Christmas Time! How Beautiful….

Newbury Street… (Keep that ‘R’ right where it belongs)

If you have yet to visit Boston, I suggest you get there now…. Every season is perfect for visting, but while this gorgeous spring weather is upon us… Get out there!!! Ciao babies XOXO

Whole Living Action-Plan….

Posted in fitness, health, lifestyle, recipe, shopping with tags , , , , , , , on March 29, 2010 by jentonelli

Helllooo … happy rainy day. I would like to invite you all into the next 28 days of my life. It is going to be terrifying…

In addition to applying for jobs, writing my senior thesis and completing the rest of my semester as well as planning for any summer moves; maintaining my health needs to be a priority in a stress-filled time. For all of us, we get bogged down by papers and job searching, taking tests and trying to have fun since apparently college is the only time for that?? Not true. Our whole lives are going to be filled with work and fun… College does NOT mark the beginning and end of this.

We need to find a way to balance our health with this stress, or we will always find some excuse not to exercise and eat right. You know you’re exhausted so you skipped the gym, but the endorphins released from exercise are proven to give you energy…. You don’t have time to cook so you go for fast food. Bad. We need those healthy and natural nutrients to keep our energy levels up and avoid crashing after a shit-load of sugar and dairy.

I proudly announce the Whole Living Action-Plan! And I invite you to join. I was reading Body + Soul magazine last night and found this 28 day plan to purify and assess our health, moods, food intake, exercise, energy, fitness etc. It offers recipes, steps and motivation for all who choose to do it. They have broken the plan down into 4 weeks. The first is a Detox Cleanse. The last is a full and healthy lifestyle. In between are two weeks to get you there. This is not the type of plan that ends in 28 days, it is 28 days to get you to your best self and help you stay there!

Today marks my  first day of the cleanse. The cleanse calls for a liquid-based diet. Wait, before you run, listen up. They say the best way to cleanse is to have liquid-based meals for breakfast and dinner complete with a hearty and filling lunch. For breakfast they offer delicious smoothie recipes and for dinner, tasty soups, you can obviously mix and match, but keep that thought in mind that liquid is your friend. Also, drink as much water as you can… 8 glasses!! And lots of tea will benefit your cleanse and your life.. For the lunches, try to avoid sugar, wheat and dairy. Go for salads filled with proteins, legumes, and hearty veggies. Below is a complete list of foods to INCLUDE and EXCLUDE during week one of the plan: The Detox.

Foods to Include

  • Dairy substitutes: Rice and nut milks such as almond milk and coconut milk
  • Non-gluten grains: brown rice, millet, amaranth, teff, tapioca, buckwheat, potato flour, quinoa, gluten-free oats

Things to Watch For

What do I wear to bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.

Posted in beauty, celebrities, lifestyle, shopping with tags , , , , , , on March 26, 2010 by jentonelli

For those of you have experienced the luxurious scent of Chanel No. 5, and for those of you who only know it by name, it is definitely in large part to the brand endorsement of Marilyn Monroe back in 1953 that contributed to the success of the ‘most legendary fragrance’ of all time…

When asked what she wore to bed, Marilyn replied: “Five drops of No. 5″…the fragrance still sits at the top of the shelves and remains a number one seller in women’s perfumes.

In the spirit of scent, I must say, perfume is absolutely the first thing I put on each day. After a shower is the best time to put your perfume on, your pores are still open so the scent will last longer. Also, do not rub your wrists together, that only removes the scent. Dab it on your wrist, behind your ear and if you like a little more, spritz it in the air then walk through it so it will leave a hint on your clothing and hair.

When I sit next to a woman in a theatre, or stand behind one in line at the grocery store, the first thing I will notice is her fragrance. There is nothing I appreciate more in the world of beauty than a unique, feminine and confident scent.

Here are a few scents I adore, either smelling them on my friends, strangers, in malls or have worn myself:

This is the fragrance I wore all through high school. I can still recognize it when someone has it on…

Gucci – Rush

My best friends mother worked for Ralph Lauren and sent us a sample of this. I was hooked and got the bottle a year ago Christmas…. Love is the perfect name for it, I loooove it!

Ralph Lauren – Love

My man got me this fresh scent last year for my 21st birthday… I wear it whenever I go out with him, and YES he notices…

Burberry Brit – Sheer

This is my mother’s signature scent. Whenever I smell it, I think of her… It’s definitely a classic!

Dolce & Gabbana – Light Blue

If there was one luxurious and unnecessary thing I could have an endless supply of it would be perfumes. I would want a whole room filled with tiny glass jars, ones with pumps that you spray on you like a queen, the ones with jeweled embellishments. I would wear a different one everyday, I would never leave home without a little scented love. If only all my dreams could come true…

Remember, the best accessory to any outfit is perfume…. I think Coco Chanel put it best when she said “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.” Think about it!

the little black dress

Posted in lifestyle, shopping with tags , , , , on March 22, 2010 by jentonelli

What is it about that little black dress? You know the one. The one made for you, for your body, your hair, your occasion? That little black dress we have never tried on, but for some reason, the moment we see it, we just know it is going to fit us, and we are going to fit it. We know the dress is going to make us look, feel and be beautiful. It will make us fall in love, and it will make others fall in love with us. The purchase of such a dress will change our entire day, and days afterward, and especially each day we slip it over our heads and look in our full-length mirror. The dress that says, “Hello gorgeous,” and you say it right back. For these next few hours, you and the dress will be combined entities, she will stay by your side all night, long after your friends have gone home or fallen in love. She will give you the confidence to dance, the desire to twirl and the grace to cross the street alone. Maybe a cute pair of heels or a classy set of flats, a long gold chain or a bold colorful necklace, your hair could be up, it could be down, curled or straightened, but the dress doesn’t care. She is your best friend tonight. She invited you out and she got you your first drink. She fit snugly on your hips and perfectly on your shoulders. She even took a few spills, maybe some tugs. That little black dress is the least judging, most flattering, sweetest friend you have. She didn’t even bitch when you stumbled or ran home in the rain. She didn’t whine when you not-so-gracefully unzipped her and ripped her off your head, tossed her in the corner of your room and forgot about her as you drifted off to sleep. No. Little black dress waited patiently for you to wake up, smooth out her lines, and hang her back up. She sat in that closet for two months without a peep. She didn’t cry or yell, she just hung. And unlike any other friend, she didn’t reprimand you when one evening you pulled out a sweater and caught a glimpse of her, recalled what a great dress she was and invited her out for another night, another adventure, another dance. She didn’t say, “Oh, remember me?” She just smiled, happy to see you again and grateful for the night that awaits…
